Chamin Kalubowila brings home Gold at the Asia Young Designer Awards 2024/25 – Sri Lanka and represents Sri Lanka on the international stage in Tokyo, Japan as a global finalist in the Interior Design category.
His award-winning project, “Pettah Link – City in Harmony, Spirit Celebrated,” impressed the jury with its sensitive and impactful response to the challenges of inclusive urban development. Set in the heart of Pettah, Colombo’s most diverse and vibrant district, the project reclaims a neglected edge between the informal market and lakefront, transforming it into a people-centered, adaptable public space.
By embracing the area's street life, culture, and community rituals, the design promotes social integration, inclusion, and assimilation, offering a thoughtful alternative to displacement through development. Key components such as the Transit Zone, Green Tower, and Market Hall extend the project’s social and ecological values across the urban fabric.
This is more than a design—it’s a replicable framework for equitable and responsive urban spaces, proving how architecture can empower communities and celebrate local identity.
